As a Senior Dam Safety Engineer with Slate, you’ll be joining a world-class group of engineers, geologists, and earthquake scientists with one primary guiding principle: Do Good Work.

Our Senior Dam Safety Engineers get their hands deep into all phases of dam safety evaluations and Federal and State regulatory compliance with the goal of becoming a FERC-approved Independent Consultant (IC) or Potential Failure Modes Analysis/Level 2 Risk Analysis Facilitator. A qualified Senior Dam Safety Engineer candidate will be experienced with Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Part 12 safety evaluation including the preparation of Periodic Inspection Reports, Comprehensive Assessment Reports, Level 2 Risk Analysis Reports, as well as preparation of ancillary reports such as STIDs and DSSMP/Rs. The ideal candidate has spent several years performing investigations, analysis and design for dam safety projects.

At the Senior level, the successful candidate will be expected to manage the execution of small to medium-sized projects or tasks, including: developing and coordinating field programs (subsurface investigations, construction observation, visual inspections, and instrument readings), overseeing the preparation of detailed engineering design and calculation packages, being responsible for preparing reports under limited supervision of senior team leaders, creating and managing budgets and deliverable schedules, participating in or leading client meetings/discussions, and staff management.

We are looking for an engaging senior engineer that will be a fit to both lead projects and mentor junior staff. This engineer will be self-motivated and will strive to build their own practice over time with the support of our existing team. SALARY RANGE

$120,000 to $175,000 (dependent on experience)

Minimum Requirements

  • 10+ Years’ experience in civil engineering or geotechnical engineering consulting or similar industry
  • M.S. in Civil Engineering (with dam safety or geotechnical focus)
  • P.E. required, CA P.E. license preferred
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Experience with FERC Part 12 Regulations, Experience with FERC SQRA procedures preferred
  • MS Excel – Advanced user (VBA knowledge a plus)
  • Advanced knowledge of computer modeling software for dam safety applications (e.g., SLOPE/W, SEEP/W, QUAD4M, FLAC2D/3D, PLAXIS, or similar)
  • Ability to expertly communicate engineering concepts both verbally and written
  • Ability to work on multiple assignments under rigid schedule and budget constraints
