Performance-based Earthquake Engineering Assessment Tool

California

Slate Geotechnical Consultants is providing project management and technical expertise for a multi-million dollar grant from the California Energy Commission to improve the seismic risk assessment of natural gas storage and pipeline infrastructure in California. Slate will work closely with Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research (PEER), Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), the SimCenter at Berkeley, with support from other technical experts from industry to develop a system-wide seismic risk assessment methodology.

The project will deliver an easy-to-use, open-source software to be hosted on the PEER website. The software will improve the ability of regulators and utility owners to better assess the seismic risks to natural gas storage and pipeline systems and help identify where seismic mitigation efforts are needed in the system’s most vulnerable components.
