About Us

Slate offers the latest techniques in geotechnical engineering, focusing on dam and levee safety, seismic hazard assessment, and geohazard evaluations. Our geotechnical practice encompasses a comprehensive range of services, from site investigation and characterization to performance-based foundation evaluations. We are committed to innovation, implementing cutting-edge techniques across all our engineering areas. Slate is headquartered in Oakland, with offices in South Lake Tahoe and Southern California.


We established Slate to collaborate closely with our clients, providing the greatest flexibility. As a small firm dedicated to personal commitment, we can tailor our geotechnical services to meet the unique needs of each project.


Our team actively engages in research and development of new techniques in earthquake engineering, contributing to advancements in ground motion analysis. This participation includes membership in project working groups that update national codes, publishing numerous journal articles, attending major conferences, developing models for the National Seismic Hazard Maps and US Building Codes, and leading conference and workshop development.
