Slate provided a geotechnical investigation and developed recommendations for the design and construction of a new 30,000 sf administrative building at the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland campus, as well as modernization to the hospital with a new seven-story inpatient tower, helipad, and fueling facilities.
The subsurface investigation identified soil conditions at the site and other subsurface elements affecting the proposed building. Slate reviewed the site geology and provided a geologic site hazard study, including the evaluation of probable ground motions and developed site-specific horizontal response spectra; logged exploratory borings/Cone Penetration Tests (CPTs); recommended water table elevation for design; recommended foundation systems; and provided preconstruction services including test borings, installation and monitoring of groundwater observation wells, and laboratory testing. Slate also developed design criteria for excavation and underpinning.
