The Indian Valley Dam and Reservoir is a multi-purpose facility for irrigation, water supply, and flood control, managed by the Yolo County Flood Control & Water Conservation District. Indian Valley Dam features a main dam, a zoned earthfill embankment with a compacted clay core, standing approximately 224 feet high, alongside a 40-foot-high saddle dam constructed in a similar manner. This reservoir plays a crucial role in providing summer irrigation needs within the District’s service area in Yolo County and offers flood storage to help mitigate the impact of damaging winter floods in Cache Creek downstream of the dam.
Slate provided independent consultant services for the eighth FERC Part 12D safety inspection and Potential Failure Modes Analysis (PFMA) for Indian Valley Dam. During this process, Slate facilitated the PFMA session with District staff, ensuring that effective geotechnical solutions were explored to enhance the dam’s safety and operational efficiency.
